ONE ROOM CHALLENGE | WEEK FIVE
This week was all about making decisions, spending money, & sanding (lots of sanding) for the One Room Challenge. Below is a side by side of my most recent mood boards.
Initially I was going to be leaving the foot board, but I feel highly confident that will change since I don’t feel like sanding anymore and the bed frame was free (it’s Civil War era, but holds no value because the original side rails are no longer with it).
Additionally, I decided to switch up the curtains. Texture has been my main goal with the room, however, I decided to play with some pattern so I’m brining in the window pane curtains. I will be attempting a “french pleat pinch”, to give otherwise inexpensive curtains a more luxe look.
The next big change was the shift from two cube ottomans to a bench. I felt like a bench was more practical and with the rug pattern, curtain pattern, and bedding - it felt like pattern on the ottomans was too much. The goal is to find a healthy balance of traditional (bed/rug/ceiling light) and contemporary (bench/curtains).
Speaking of texture; this will enter the room by way of lamps (these will get the Jaci Daily “found pot” treatment), boucle throw blanket, bamboo blinds, and linen sheets. Additionally, the duvet, shams & throw pillow also have a ticking of sorts.
Originally I was going to get my bedding from Coyuchi because it looked super luxe and they participated in Afterpay, but once I added the duvet & shams to the cart I realized I couldn’t swing them and I hadn’t even added sheets at that point. I found a similar duvet from the Nate Berkus line at Target and decided to check them out!
Unfortunately, the duvet & sham set wasn’t in stock and the leather pillow I purchased was too large, but I fixed that and purchased the duvet set & blue pillow online (they’ll arrive by Friday). I did however, happen upon the new Casaluna aisle and picked up a white sheet set & an extra set of pillow cases as well as the beige boucle throw.
I’m on the fence about getting a quilt for the bed, but I’ll definitely end up purchasing a set of the off white sheets & white boucle throw to see what looks the best in the room.
Tomorrow I’ll continue sanding the bed frame and plan to purchase the the ceiling light, curtains & bench.
P.S. Target is running a special on bedding & bath - $20 off with a purchase of $50 or more (excluding Casaluna & Hearth & Hand).
