ONE ROOM CHALLENGE | WEEK THREE
Time is flying by in the One Room Challenge and I am falling behind due to a full-time job and decision paralysis. Last week I chose and bought paint, the rug was delivered, and I started working on my lamp bases.
I’m up-cycling some cheap Goodwill table lamps with paper clay and what I’ve discovered in this process is that this simple recipe (wet shredded paper mixed with flour) smells absolutely disgusting. I think the problem is that I’m laying it on too thick and since it’s not drying the odor is becoming more pungent. I can either do thinner layers, remove the electrical components and bake it on low heat, or try a new recipe (but I’ll have to buy more ingredients). Regardless, I’ll be doing this over and forming a different shape; this time around I’ll make a cardboard template that I can use to check my angles and finishing it off with the Jaci Daily “found” pot technique.
This week I need to prep/paint and start stripping the bed frame to transform her from the existing orange to the black stain of my dreams. This is going to involve me waking up early; using the early hours without Jamey to focus on labor intensive projects and work on small DIY projects (like the lamps) in front of the TV with him. I’m not saying that’s quality time, but at least it’s face time.
I also need to pull the trigger on curtains, these are the three beige options I’m considering and the price is for 4 panels. It’s worth mentioning that I have 2 velvet panels in a silver/beige that are no longer sold, I’ve found additional panels on Ebay & Poshmark, so if I like the looks of them with the walls painted and the rug, I’ll go ahead and purchase.
Pros: Unique texture & grey undertones that provide some contrast.
Cons: Expensive, but I can use Afterpay and make 4 payments of $118.
Pros: Thermal, blackout, machine washable and who doesn’t love velvet!
Cons: I’m concerned these would look too flat against the walls.
Pros: Geometric pattern, gauzy texture, pulls colors from the rug and above all price.
Cons: Not light blocking and will probably have to purchase additional panels for fullness.
Sidenote: Our guest rooms have the ugliest thermostats to control the baseboard heaters, I was trying to find a more attractive option when I found the Mysa Smart Thermostat for electric baseboard heaters. I decided to purchase one for this project and I’m VERY excited because visually we’re getting a major upgrade but it also connects to Alexa (and other voice assistants), can be controlled with your phone, and scheduling. I don’t see us using the scheduling feature in guest rooms, but that would be a great to utilize in the bathroom if our electrician says it’ll work with the wall unit.
That’s all for now, make sure to turn into my stories to see more!
