ONE ROOM CHALLENGE | WEEK TWO

It’s been a slow week over here for the One Room Challenge, we had a friend move into the other guest room and in preparing for his stay I turned this guest room into a junk closet. Since I’m really good at shoveling junk from one room to the next I decided now was the time to go through some of this stuff. Suffice to say, I have about 6 bags of clothes, accessories & home goods headed to the local Goodwill or The Salvation Army. About 4 days into my cleaning task I lost steam and just shoved everything in the closet, I’m not planning on doing anything with the closet for ORC so there it will stay for the time being.

The original plan was to try and get some roman clay from Portola Paints on the wall but with the shipping time for samples/product and cost, it just doesn’t make sense for this project. I selected a few swatches from my Farrow & Ball fan deck and got myself over to Sherwin Williams for some color matching, come to find out they’re running a 40% off sale on paints! I’m fairly certain that I’ll be painting the trim Ammonite and the ceiling & walls in Wevet. I’m also going to try some of the SW specialty enamel trim paint and paint the nightstands in Farrow & Ball All-White.

Looking at this design I want to focus on my two biggest items; the rug and the bed frame, below are my inspiration images for both items.

I found a similar distressed looking rug from Loloi, I have a few Loloi runners that are similar and I think they do such a good job with color and pattern for printed rugs. That said, these are good for low traffic areas, the one in our mudroom is a pretty threadbare but I have no doubts that this area rug will be a good choice for a guest room.

The bed frame I already have, I scored it on the side of the road in an affluent part of town, they were having an estate sale and the auction house responsible for the sale didn’t find any value in the piece; probably due to the missing side rails. Well this summer I built simple maple side rails and stained them to match the orange tone of the headboard and footboard. I’m 90% sure I’ll be stripping, sanding & staining the bed since my floors and blinds are the same color.

The rug is on its way and I hope to get started on some of the DIY projects this week before and after work. If you missed my last ORC post, you can see my mood board and mockup HERE.
